Thanks everybody that came to New Scholars’ “Drink to Give” fundraiser this past Monday @ Bin 38! What a success!
There were about 60 of us, including members of the now infamous AngelGate. Crazy to think the talk of the Valley was happening at the same venue!
We’re looking forward to welcoming you again at our “Evening of Decadent Indulgence” on Oct. 21st. You’re not going to want to miss it, trust us. Tickets are one sale here. Hurry, they’re going fast!

Africa is at a tipping point. There’s an entire generation eager to bootstrap themselves and others out of poverty, to reach self-sufficiency. They’re starting an entrepreneurial revolution, and they need role models.
You’ve heard of adventure travel? You’ve heard of eco-travel? Now there’s Entrepreneurial travel. New Scholars invites you to join us on an Entrepreneurial Safari to Kenya this Summer.
Come share your insights and experience on business and life; share your thoughts, opinions, and lessons learned on the start-up process with 50 African entrepreneurs eager to learn. Eleven role models participated last year; the result: five viable business plans.
There are only five slots open. You don’t want to miss this opportunity to see the impact you make.
Thank you everyone that made the New Scholars’ leadership training a great success this December, 2009, especially Lyndsay Holley & Nick Handler who so graciously opened their house to us for three weeks and Silvia Battilana & Jesse Czelusta who helped us with training sessions.
Below is a taste, with more to follow in the coming weeks:

New Scholars’ interns–Bay-Sudan Connection co-founders–Alex Song and Danielle Szuch were highlighted along with Garang on Youth Radio last May.
Way to go you two!
New Scholars is proud to announce that we will be working with Barefoot Coffee over the next couple months to raise $6,000 for a month-long leadership training with our 6 new scholars this December.
We have some exciting things planned, including the Harambee Communal Cup–a drink specially crafted for New Scholars–and an African Ivy plant that we’ll be cultivating in the cafe.
More to come later, but for now please save these dates:
Ninapenda!
