Just came across this video of William Kamkwamba and needed to share, for William is a perfect example of the initiative that New Scholars aims to support. Take a look:

Valentino Meets New Scholars' Founders
This past Monday Garang and I had the honor to sit with Greg Larson, associate director of the Valentino Achak Deng Foundation (VAD), as a follow up to our introduction late last April to Valentino -the Lost Boy immortalized in Dave Egger’s “What is the What“, which was just recommended by President Obama himself.
We want to thank Greg for taking the time a few days before his trip back to Sudan, and express our excitement towards Valentino and his support for New Scholars.

He is writing a letter of appreciation to peers at Bentley High School in Lafayette, California. Through a student club, the Bay-Sudan Connection, students at Bentley raised scholarship funds to send Agau and five other Sudanese refugees to two top-secondary schools in Kenya.

Computers at our partner schools in Kenya are not connected to the internet. We are working to bring satellite internet to Lodwar Boys & Turkana Girls
